On the heels of Monday’s announcement about Michael Rea’s session, here is the title and the abstract for the conference’s closing plenary session, featuring Laurie Paul:
What are the Fundamental Categories of the World?
Laurie Paul (UNC – Chapel Hill)
I will begin by discussing the way we should understand metaphysics: as an investigation into the fundamental categories of the world, in other words, as an investigation into the fundamental nature of what there is. I will then explore the way this sort of metaphysical project is related to scientific theorizing, especially its relation to work in fundamental physics. I will close with an outline of a metaphysical theory according to which the world is composed of global properties.
