2010 Theme: Wisdom

The 2010 conference is the culmination of a series of four conferences on the cardinal virtues. We invite papers examining the meaning, history, and practical implications of the idea of wisdom as a virtue. Submissions from a variety of disciplinary perspectives are encouraged.
Presentations may include the following topics:
- Cultural Understandings of Wisdom
- Historical Understandings of Wisdom
- Political Wisdom
- Wisdom in Relation to the Virtues
- Self-Knowledge and Self-Deception
- Rationality and Irrationality
Keynote Speaker: James Duncan, author of the novels The River Why and The Brothers K and several works of nonfiction, including God Laughs & Plays and My Story as Told by Water.
Presentation proposals should be no more than one-page in length and include name, affiliation, address, and e-mail address. Presentations will be limited to twenty minutes with ample time provided for discussion. Proposals for panel discussions and “works in progress” are encouraged.
Deadline for submissions: January 11, 2010.
